EC 1 Flashcards
What are three different electodes utilized in a 3 electrode cell?
Working Electrode:
This is the area where the reaction takes place.
Reference Electrode
Provides a fixed reference potential.
Auxiliary Electrode
Allows for current to be produced
Name a possible material that can used for the 3 electrodes in an 3 electrode cell
Working electrode:
Carbon
Reference electrode:
ag/agcl
Auxiliary Electrode
Platinun
Why is KCL added to the solution?
this is to ensure that the only mode of mass transfer is by diffusion and not Ion migration. By adding large amounts of KCL it eliminates the ion diffusion so the only mode of is by diffusion
