incubation of EBV
A
4-7 weeks and infection can last 2-4 weeks. can be infectious up to 18 months after infection

presentation in > 40y/o is atypical
A
○ Without sore throat and lymphadenopathy (in more than 50% of people).
○ With unexplained fever of more than 2 weeks’ duration.
○ With jaundice (in about 20% of older adults).

EBV lymphadenopathy
A
mostly bilateral posterior cervical

EBV diagnosed in > 12y/o and immunocompetent
A
○ FBC with differential white cell count and monospot test (heterophile antibodies) in second week of illness

strep sore throat
A
usually anterior cervical lymphadenopathy
