eating habits and health behavior Flashcards
what FOUR factors determine eating behavior?
- development : social learning, exposure to food, association
- cognition : belief, values, attitudes
- weight concern : meaning of food, meaning of body weight/shape
- culture : rules about eating and food preparation, cultural beliefs about specific ingredients, religion and rituals
What research did Davis conduct for eating behavior?
He conducted research on infants and children that were hospitalized. The children were given a choice of 10-12 foods, they mostly selected those that fit their growth needs.
What is Neophobia?
Fear and avoidance of new food. It is hereditary and higher in males.
What experiment did Birch and Marlin conduct and what was the conclusion?
They exposed children to food to see the level of food preference. The conclusion is looking is not sufficient to break neophobia, tasting is necessary, and after 8-10 exposures a shift happens.
What is body dissatisfaction?
