Battle of Tannenberg (1914)
Poor Russian communication and supply lines. German leadership takes advantage of fighting in their backyard. Russian leadership does cooperate of understand geography. Russia defeated by Germany. Turkey enters war on side of Germany and Russia’s main supply in Dardanelles Strait cut off
Brusilov Offensive (1916)
Russian offensive defeated A-H forces from which their empire never recovered. Cost 1 million Russian lives. After Russia lacked resources to exploit and did not experience repeated success
Russian Revolution (1917-1923)
Russians bothered by economic crisis and war losses. Romanov Dynasty replaced by Provisional government which was later overthrown by Bolshevik Party. Lenin consolidates power for revolution by ending war
Treaty of Brest-Litovsk (1918)
Russia gives up 1/2 ag. land, 1/2 of industry, 2/3 coal mines, pay 5 billion rubles. Russia exits war
