What is a stream?
A body of flowing water confided to a channel like a river
What is head/ headwater?
Where the stream starts
What is a Drainage basin/ Watershed
Region from which water is collected
What is the mouth?
Where it empties into another body of water ex river flowing into an ocean
What is bed?
Base of the stream
What is banks?
It confines stream during normal flow (sides of the steam)
What is a floodplain
Region covered during a flood where sediment is deposited
What is stage (flood)
Elevation of water surface
What is flood stage
When the stream stage exceeds bank height
What is crest?
Where the maximum stage is reached
What is a hypocentre?
The location where the fault initially breaks, where the movement occurs and will ripple out like waves
What is the epicentre?
The point on the earth’s surface (land) that is directly above the hypocentre
What is seismology?
The study of earthquakes
What is a seismograph?
An instrument that measure ground movement as the earthquake is occurring
What is a seismogram?
Record of earthquakes made from the data of a seismograph
