Earthworm Flashcards
Septa (Septum)

The lines that divide the worm and help it move.
Clitelluem

The large bump, typically on top the dorsal side that divides the anterior and the posterior.
Dorsal

The top side of the animal. (Earthworm it is the darker side, the more round side, and the side that has the Clitellum on top.)
Vental

The bottom side of the animal. (The earthworm, the flat and light colored side.)
Anterior

The “head” of the animal. In the Earthworm it was the side we cut open an examined (Ex. testes, mouth, the ganglia….)
Posterior

The end of the animal where the anus is typically located.
Mouth

The beginning of the animal where they typically eat food.
Anus

The end of the animal where the feces and poop come out.
Setae

The part on the outside that helps the earthworm move, these are located up an down the whole body.
Sperm groove

Are the place where the sperm is stored to be able to be released when it can be reproduced.
Gential pores
The place where the egg or sperm can meet to reproduce.
Seminal receptacles (vestical)

The “pocket” that stores unused sperm.
Dorsal blood vessel

The vessel located at the top of the animal.
Aortic arches

The hearts of the earthworm.
Pharynx

Part of the digestive tract right after the mouth.
Esophagus

The throat of the earthworm right between the pharynx and crop.
Crop

Right after the Esophagus that stores the food until its ready for the gizzard.
Gizzard

After the crop, used to “grind” up food that can be digested easier. (The really hard part in the worm)
Intesine

Where the food gets digested.
Ganglia

The brain.
Seminal vesicle

Small hollow organs that carry the semen of an earthworm.
Ovaries

The egg of the earthworm. (The earthworm is hermaphroditic)
Testes

The sperm producers of the earthworm.
