Earthquakes Flashcards
How do the tectonic plates move?
Heat in the core (which makes slow moving currents) causes molten rock in mantle to move
When the mantle moves it drags the plates along with it
How are earthquakes caused
The plates try to move along each other but they are locked in place
Only heaps of pressure can cause them to move
When this happens energy in the form of seismic waves is released and they can sometimes reach the surface forming an earthquake
What can divergent plates form?
Basalt because lava can slip through the cracks and solidify.
What can convergent plates form?
Tall mountains or deep trenches, or they can go under each other and melt.
What can transform boundaries make?
EARTHQUAKES
