80,000 death toll, thousands injured, 3 million homeless, water and electricity lines broken, landslides buried people and buildings, roads and telephone lines were destroyed, Diarrhoea and other diseases spread from the little clean water availability.

Landslides and rockfalls affected habitats, a landslide in Jhelum Valley was over 1 km wide and over 2km long- the debris created a dam at the bottom of the valley and blocked two conjoining rivers.
