earth's structure and internal energy sources Flashcards
1
Q
what is the inner core?
A
mainly composed on iron and nickel, a solid ball of metal, very hot d2 pressure and radioactive decay-> this heat is responsible for Earth’s internal energy
2
Q
What is the outer core?
A
composed of iron, semi molten d2 inner core-> melts and becomes liquid, outer core moves around inner core, creating Earth’s magnetic field
3
Q
What is the mantle?
A
thickest layer of the earth, mainly solid rock, top layer is semi-molten magma- asthenosphere, lithosphere rests on top
4
Q
what is the crust?
A
