Earth’s Interior Flashcards
When geologist want to study Earth’s interior they use an indirect method called?
They use an indirect method called seismic waves.
What is pressure?
Is a force pushing on a surface or area.
What are the three main layer that make up Earth’s interior?
The crust, mantle and core
What is crust?
The crust is a layer of rock that forms the outer skin of Earth.
What does the crust include in?
The crust include rock and mountains also soil and water.
The crust beneath the ocean is called
Oceanic crust
What is mantle?
Is a solid material, layer of hot rock
Below the boundary is the solid material of the
Mantle
What is the asthenosphere?
Is a soft layer
What layer is means “weak” but isn’t
Asthenoshpere
After the mantle you reach the…
Core
Earth’s core consist on two parts:
-Solid inner core
-Liquid outer core
What is solid inner core?
Is a dense ball of solid metal.
What is a liquid outer core?
A layer of molten metal that surround the inner core.
What is the conclusion of the magnetic fields?
Due to the high temperatures of the liquid outer core the magnetic fields moves slowly.
