Earth and environmental exam revison Flashcards
Abiotic
abiotic are non-living components; such as water, soil and atmosphere.
Biotic
Biotic factors are living things within an ecosystem; such as plants, animals, and bacteria
Lithosphere
The rigid outer part of the earth, consisting of the crust and upper mantle.
Biosphere
The region on, above, and below the Earth’s surface where life exists
Hydrosphere
The total amount of water on a planet.
Atmosphere
a mixture of gases that surrounds the Earth
Germination definition
the process by which a plant grows from a seed into a seedling.
Germination step/processes
Step 1: Imbibition: water fills the seed.
Step 2: The water activates enzymes that begin the plant’s growth.
Step 3: The seed grows a root to access water underground.
Step 4: The seed grows shoots that grow towards the sun.
Step 5: The shoots grow leaves
biotic and abiotic factors of germination
water and oxygen in the air
