Ears: Flashcards
Ears:
The ears should be of moderate size, preferably small rather than large, broad at the base, muscular, pricked and moderately pointed neither spoon nor bat eared. The ears are set wide apart on the skull, inclining outwards, sensitive in their use and pricked when alert, the leather should be thick in texture and the inside of the ear fairly well furnished with hair.
Australian Cattle Dog
Ears:
The ears are pricked and running to a fine point at the tips, the leather fine but strong at the base, set wide apart on the skull and inclining outwards, slightly curved on the outer edge and of moderate size. The inside of the ears is well furnished with hair.
Australian Kelpie
Ears:
Are triangular of moderate size and leather, set high on the head. At full attention they break forward and over, or to the side as a rose ear.
Prick ears and hanging ears are severe faults.

Set high. Ears are half-pricked or drop-ears. They should not be plastered against the cheeks. They are flat and rather short. The
length of the ear should be half the length of the head.

Rather small, set high, distinctly triangular appearance, well-rounded outer ear, pointed tips, stiff, carried upright and vertical when the dog is alert.

Semi-drop ears set high, i.e. the last two thirds of the ear leather is pendant. When the dog is alert, the ear lifts slightly at the base. Triangular shape. Length is between 11 and 13 cm, width 6.5 to 8 cm. The base is wide, extending at the back to the point where the head sets into the neck, while frontally reaching to the middle of the skull. The tip is slightly rounded.
Bergamasco Shepherd Dog
Ears:
Medium size and texture, set well apart. Carried erect or semierect and sensitive in use.
Border Collie
Ears:
Set high, above eye level, flaps falling vertically. The fold must not stand higher than the top of the skull. Shape and carriage: Semi long, forming an equilateral triangular, slightly rounded at the tip, lying flat against the cheeks, except the slight lift-up at the top of the ear set, neither folded or nor curled, in proportion with head size, covered with very short hair.
Bouvier des Flandres
Ears:
Set on high and covered with long hair. Should not lie too flat against side of head. Fairly short, length of ear being equal to or slightly less than half length of head. When dog alert, ears should be lifted slightly and swing very slightly forward.
Briard
Ears:
These should be small and not too close together on top of the skull, nor too much to the side of the head. When in repose they should be carried thrown back, but when on the alert brought forward and carried semi-erect, that is, with approximately two-thirds of the ear standing erect, the top third tipping forward naturally, below the horizontal.
Collie Rough
Ears:
These should be relatively large, wider at the base, and placed not too close together nor too much on the side of the head. When in repose they should be carried thrown back, but when on the alert brought forward and carried semi-erect, that is, with approximately two-thirds of the ear standing erect, the top third tipping forward naturally, below the horizontal
Collie Smooth

Medium sized. When the dog is alert, the ears are carried high and erect.
Dutch Shepherd Dog
