What is the clinical problem caused by congenital epulis?
Will interrupt the babies feeding ability.
What is congenital epulis?
Lesion that forms on the gum pads of a newborn.
Usually 1-2mm in size but can be larger.
Very rare.
What are natal teeth?
Teeth present at birth.
They are not extra teeth so cannot be removed.
They may not be properly developed & loose.
What are neonatal teeth?
Teeth that erupt from birth to 8 weeks (early eruption).
What are the clinical problems of neonatal teeth that could warrant extraction?
Cause problems with breast feeding.
So loose that they are an inhalation risk.
Ulcerations form on the child’s tongue - could also be smoothed.
What is an eruption cyst?
A blue swelling seen where the tooth is about to erupt. Will disappear after eruption. Essentially a blood blister.
