why was early modern bankside important [4]
A
- rose theatre still used today to show Shakespeare’s plays
- clink was a notorious prison by 1470’s and was inhabited by lawbreakers from liberty of the clink
- bear bait. arenas shows: entertainment that brings rich & poor together/ provoked violence/ law shut theatres on some days to preserve bear baiting
- theatres on bankside as it was not popular w/ city but bankside was outside city’s jurisdiction
