Early intervention services are designed for what children?
children aged 0-3yrs who have established risk, developmental delay or environmentally or biologically at risk
Purposes of early intervention services?
Enhance development of children w disabilities Minimize potential developmental delay Recognize significant brain growth during this age frame
Eligibility for Early Intervention
- 33% or more in developmental delay in 1 or more domains (cognitive, social emotional, adaptive, etc)
- Considered at-risk (biomedical) in the city or state
- Has a diagnosis the puts them at high risk for developmental delay
What’s the role of the OT in EI?
Addressing child and family needs in the natural environment
ex. Community, home, telehealth for coaching
What are the areas of intervention for OT in EI?
- Sensory processing
- Play (as a means and end)
- motor performance
- Self-care/adaptive
- Social interaction
- Parent-child interaction
