Spectator play
Observe other children playing around them but will not play with them
Parallel play
Play along side others but will not play with them
Associate play
Starts to interact with others in their play and there may be fleeting co-operation between in play. Develops friendships and preferences for playing with some but not all other children. Play is normally in mixed sex groups
Co-operative play
Plays together with shared aims of play with others. Play may be quite difficult and he’s supportive of other children in his play. As he reaches primary school age, play is normally in single sex groups
Self-esteem
Self-esteem concerns the opinions you have and how you feel about yourself
Self-image
Self-image is how an individual will think and feel about themselves based on how they imagine other people to see them
Primary socialisation
Comes during childhood form our parents
Secondary socialisation
Comes for childhood to the rest of our life, from teachers, friends and everyone else we come into contact with
Independence from parents
Not relying on your parents so they can do things themselves
Gender realisation
Knowing the differences between men and women
Ideas about themselves
Knowing who they are and knowing their personalities and characters. They do not reflect on themselves and their overall worth
Self-concept
An idea of the self constructed form the beliefs one holds about oneself and the response from others
Temper tantrums
Unpleasant and disruptive behaviours or emotional outbursts. They usually occur for desires or needs from people
Aggression
Feeling of anger or antipathy resulting in hostile or violent behaviour; readiness to attack or conflict
Playing with others
Interacting and amusing others e.g. Playing with toys
