describe the symptoms of otitis externa
A
- Generalised inflammation of external ear
Initially irritation » scratching » pain/trauma - Discharge if present is not mucopurulent
- refer when fever symptoms still there after 7 days
treatment: oral antihistamines diprobase dry skin olive oil swim ear - glycerin - acetic acid - earcalm spray

how to place the medicine
A
Wash hands
Warm bottle in hands for a few minutes
Tilt head to one side with ear pointing to ceiling.
Instil 5 drops. Remain in position for 5 minutes
then treat opposite ear. Repeat bd/tds.
Use cotton wool plug if necessary
Wash hands
Use for 3-4 days or as per manufacturers’
direction
Consider syringing by doctor if not cleared up
