E.7 Thermodynamics Flashcards
What is a drug target?
Usually a macromolecule that is generally much bugger than the drug molecule
Interactions take place in. A binding site
Binding interactions usually result in induced fit, suggesting that the active site changes shape.
What interactions take place in the binding of a drug and drug target ?
Intermolecular bonds
What are binding interactions driven by?
Thermodynamics and equilibrium
If deltaG is negative and large and Keq is large, what does this suggest about the quality and the strength of binding of a drug?
Good drug and binds strongly
If you want a drug to be food and bind strongly (have a large and negative delta G) what needs to happen to the enthalpy (delta H) and entropy (delta S)
Delta S is large and negative
And or
Delta S au large and positive
What favourable interactions (between the drug and target) is the enthalpy component driven by?
Electrostatic
H-bonds
Van deer walks
Aromatic-aromatic
What is the strongest intermolecular interactions ?
Electrostatic
