E3 steroids (non specific) Flashcards
Steroids are what analogues
Have what action
How long are the compounds used for
what is their function
Glucocorticoid analogues
Anti-inflammatory action
These compounds used after transplantation, not in long run
Keep immune response suppressed
How to steroids reduce inflammation
- what can steroids downregulate
- what is the direct effect
- The indirect effect
Inhibit cytokines upstream therefore prevent cytokine induced prostaglandin biosynthesis
- upregulated COX: prevent flow of arachidonic acid (COX becomes deprived)
(annexin 1 - inhibits flux of AA from membrane)
- inhibition of cytokines
- inhibition of prostanoids
Describe steroid mechanism
Steroids can control regulatory element of DNA
Steroid binds to receptor attached to HSP90 –> binding of steroid disengages receptor and releases receptor-steroid complex –> can translocate to nucleus and bind to regulatory elements of DNA - which are regulated by steroid
