Dynamics And Space Flashcards
Measurements needed to be made to measure average speed
Distance travelled, time taken
Measuring instruments required for measuring average speed
Trundle wheel, stop clock
What is reaction time ?
The time it takes your brain to process a message from your senses. Approximately 0.3 seconds.
What is instantaneous speed ?
The speed at one particular point
Measurements to be made for instantaneous speed
Length of vehicle or card on vehicle and time taken to pass the point ( to enter and leave it )
Measuring instruments required for instantaneous speed
Ruler (or metre stick) and light gate connected to timer.
Where should the light gate be placed ?
At the point where you want to measure the instantaneous speed
Formula for instantaneous speed
Instantaneous speed= length of vehicle
———————-
Time to pass through light gate
What is acceleration?
The increase of speed of an object every second measured in ms-1
Acceleration formula
Change in speed divided by time taken
Calculating distance travelled from a speed time graph
The total area under a moving objects speed-time graph is equal to the distance travelled by the moving object
What is a force ?
A force is a push or a pull
What can forces do to an object ?
Change the shape, speed or direction of an object
How can you measure force?
A Newton meter (also called a Newton balance) in newtons (N)
What is friction ?
A force which opposes the movement of an object
