Dynamics 2 Flashcards
. State the equation for Newton’s 2nd law.
A. Fun = ma
Q. State the equation for weight.
A. W = mg
Q. State the device used in the classroom to measure weight.
A. A Newton balance.
Q. Explain what happens to your mass if you go to another planet.
A. Your mass stays the same as you are still made up of the same particles.
Q. Explain what happens to your weight if you go to another planet.
A. Your weight changes because the strength of gravity changes (W = mg).
Q. State what is meant by the term streamlining.
A. Making something smoother, smaller or more curved to reduce air resistance or drag.
Q. State what is meant by the term lubrication.
A. Putting a liquid or gas between two surfaces to reduce friction.
Q. A blue dodgem hits into a stationary red dodgem. The blue dodgem slows down but the red dodgem speeds up. Explain this using Newton’s 3rd law.
A. Every action has an equal and opposite reaction. The blue dodgem applies a force to accelerate the red dodgem but the red dodgem applies an equal force in the opposite direction to decelerate the blue dodgem.
Q. State the units for force.
A. Newtons (N)
Q. State the units for weight.
A. Newtons (N)
State the units for velocity.
A. metres per second (ms-1)
State the units for distance.
A. metres (m)
Q. State the units for mass
A. kilograms (kg)
Q. State the units for acceleration
A. metres per square second (ms-2)
