dynamics Flashcards
what is Newton’s 1st law of motion?
An object at rest will stay at rest and an object in motion will continue at a constant speed in a straight line in the same direction until it is acted upon by an unbalanced force.
what is Newton’s 2nd law of motion?
An unbalanced force acting on an object causes an acceleration.
What is Newton’s 3rd law of motion?
For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. e.g a skateboard, you push backwards on the floor and the floor pushes forwards in you.
What is terminal velocity?
The maximum constant speed reached by a falling object.
What is the law of conservation of energy?
Energy cannot be created nor destroyed, it can only be transferred from one form to another or one location to another.
What is gravitational potential energy?
Energy transferred to objects that are lifted off the ground
scalars
Fully defined by magnitude alone e.g speed, distance, mass, time, energy
vectors
defined by magnitude and direction e.g velocity, displacement, acceleration
instantaneous speed?
Speed at a given moment or instant in time
