Dynamics 1.3 Flashcards
What is Newtons first law?
An object will stay in a state of uniform motion in a straight line unless a force acts on it
What is Newton’s second law?
Resultant force=mass x acceleration
What is Newton’s third law?
If object A exerts a force on object B, object B will exert an equal and opposite force on object A
What is the principle of the conservation of momentum?
The vector sum of momenta stays constant as long as there is no external force
What is an elastic collision?
A collision where there is no change in kinetic energy
What is an inelastic condition?
A collision in which kinetic energy is lost
What is Newton’s second law in terms of momentum?
The resultant force is directly proportional to the change in momentum/time taken
