Dx and Tx planning Flashcards
Aim of ortho tx
Position dentition within Sk. and ST environment for optimal facial, dental aesthetic
- stable, ideal, static and fx occlusion
Subjective (aesthetic) criterias
1) Macro
2) Mini
3) Micro
What is Macro aesthetics
Facial and soft tissue aesthetics
- Cl. I m/o cannot be achieved in expense of ST profile
- size of nose, chip, impt to lip prominence
- extend of sk discrepency
- communication
What is mini aesthetics
Improving smile framework:
1) vertical tooth-lip rs: at least 75% Ui show (F>M) KIV intrusion/extrusion of Ui, gingival recontouring in overgrowth
2) transverse dimension: broad smile
3) smile arch: vary bracket bonding, acct of indiv variations re lip position, incisor wear
4) symmetry: diff in crown ht on either side, asymm exo, gingival contours, cant
What is micro aesthetics
Enhancing appearance of tth:
- reshape
- tooth proportions
- black triangle
5 classifications of malocclusion + evidence
Ackerman & Proffit (1960)
1) Dentofacial appearance
2) Teeth/Arch form - alignment, symm, crowding, proclination
3) Transvere - sk rs, crossbite
