1) Impelled to act as he did because he feared death or serious harm
2) He responded as a sober person of reasonable firmness sharing the characteristics of D would

1) D acted as he did because, as a result of what he reasonably believed the situation was, he had good cause to fear death or serious physical injury
2) He responded as a sober person of reasonable firmness sharing the characteristics of the D

The circumstances must be external (not internal like suicidal thoughts) and therefor testable and objective
