what is it?
superficial fibromatosis that starts in the hand
what causes it?
mainly genetics - autosomal dominant , variable penetration
diabetes mellitus
alcohol/cirrhosis
what is the pathophysiology?
palmar fascia gets thicker and fibrosed until 4th and 5th fingers permanently flexed
bands are primarily collagen type III
what are the symptoms?
painless, gradual progression
flexor contracture affecting 4th and 5th fingers
what are the signs?
palpate cords
MCP/PIP joint involvement - measure angles
table top test - inability to flatten hand
what investigations are used?
mainly clinical diagnosis
feel cords
MCP/PIP joint involvement
table-top
what is the conservative management?
observation, stretches, activity modification
