Outline- the 4 stages of breakdown
Intra-psychic phase - cognitive processes thinking you can’t take it anymore.
Dyadic phase - the couple start to vocalise their problems with eachother.
Social phase- they speak to their friends about and try gain support in a decision to leave.
Grave dressing- the aftermath of the relationship, where they both come up with a story of why it ended that suits them.
Evaluation- duck (1994)
Support- Real life application
- he recommended people in the insta-psychic phase could be encouraged to focus on the positive aspects of their partner
- also a feature of the dyadic phase is communication, so if this can be improved their relationship may be salvaged
Evaluation- Rollie and Duck (2006)
Limitation- limited stages
- they suggested that there sound be more stages so they modified it to add:
Resurrection phase- where ex partners use their past relationship experiences to find new relationships with new people.
