Whats the difference between hypertensive emergency and hypertensive urgency?
With hypertensive emergency you’ll sill end organ damage and you want to treat STRAIGHT away.
With hypertensive urgency you have 24-36 hours to treat.

What does BUN:CR ratio greater than 20:1 indicate?
prerenal problem = dehydrated
What does BUN: Cr ration less than 10:1 indicate?
It’s a renal or intrarenal probelm. DO NOT GIVE THEM fluid
In chronic renal failure, you would see what kind of anemia?
Normocytic normalchromic anemia. Everything is normal but just not enough of it. THis is because the kidney isn’t making erythropoietin.
By looking at a pt’s urinalysis, what is the easiest/fasting way to tell if the patient is dehydrated?
If their specific gravity is high.
Fraction excretion of Na is below 1% means _
patient is dehyrated.
Fraction excretion of Na is greater than 3% means _
kidney problems. pt is NOT dehydrated. dont give them fluid.
how do you treat hyperkalemia?
insulin, glucose, Ca, or albuterol.
