Dual Coding Science Thing Flashcards
What is osmosis?
Osmosis is the transport of water through a semi-permeable membrane from low concentration to high concentration
What is diffusion?
Particles moving from high to low concentration
What do enzymes do?
Enzymes split down foods into smaller parts.
What is a scalar quantity?
Only has size e.g. speed
What is a vector quantity?
Has size and direction e.g. Velocity
What is the difference between mass and weight?
Mass is how much of something there is and doesn’t change but weight is the mass times gravity.
What is Newton’s third law?
Every action has an equal and opposite reaction.
What is Newton’s first law?
An object will continue with the same velocity until it is acted upon by an outside force.
What is Newton’s second law?
Force = mass x acceleration
What is active transport?
The transport of particles against the concentration gradient - requires energy.
What does a plant cell contain?
Cell wall Cell membrane Nucleus Vacuole Cytoplasm Chloroplasts
What does an animal cell contain?
Cell membrane
Nucleus
Cytoplasm
Mitochondria
What does an atom contain?
A nucleus containing protons and neutrons.
Electrons shells with electrons.
What do particles in a solid look like?
They are in a gridlock pattern and can only vibrate
What do particles in a liquid look like?
They are free to move over and around each other but are still attached to each other.
