DUAL ARCH IMPRESSIONS Flashcards

30+ years old

A

The triple tray was first patented in 1980 by
Dr. S. Rand Werrin.
 It was called the “Dental Bite Tray”

advantages
* Average occlusal error for articulated casts is
– microns
* Less — is necessary(ideally)
* — procedure for a single tooth restoration
bounded by natural occlusal stops
* Best used for an —
* Overimpression technique (made before tooth
preparation) aids in — fabrication

disadvantages
 The tray is —, not a custom fit to the
dentition/arch form
 Most tray types are —
 The tray can interfere with correct jaw —
 The patient is — when biting into
the impression-must check accuracy
 Cast preparation/mounting are —

No contralateral — reference, as in full
arch, accurate mounting?
 Potential occlusal interferences in —
movements-must eliminate beforehand
 Consider Thielemann’s diagonal law of
occlusion(Compendium 1991 Feb;12(2):114)
 Compromised prosthetic occlusal —
 — sensitive

clinical technique
 Visually inspect the interocclusal relationship
in maximum intercuspation before anesthesia
 Try-in the impression tray and visually verify
the same occlusal relationship (no tray
interference)-on both sides of the mouth
 Impressions must include the opposing
— for anterior guidance
 Perform preparation isolation and gingival
retraction

 Apply tray adhesive to the …-not on the interocclusal
insert/mesh
 Apply — viscosity impression material
around the preparation
 Fill both sides of the tray with — viscosity
material
 Insert the tray immediately and verify the
originally observed interocclusal relationship
 The impression should have — areas
on the mesh where adjacent teeth occlude completely.
 Verify no tray interferences in the final
impression.
 Remove any materials that can’t be
disinfected, i.e. cotton rolls, isolation aids

lab technique
 Pour the arch with the preparation(s) in — stone, place —, and allow the stone
to set.
 Pour the opposing arch in — stone and
let it set.
 With both arches not separated from the
impression, mount the casts on a small metal
hinge articulator.

 Trim all excess overlapping stone that might
prevent closure to the proper occlusion.
 Open the articulator.
 Separate the arches.
 Saw the dies from the master cast.
 Trim the dies and mark the margins.
