What is word art?
Easily edited, stretched and shrunk text.
What is bitmap?
Image made of pixels, large files and loss of quality when stretched.
What is bleed?
An image or colour fill that extends beyond the edge of the page.
What is body text?
The main columns of reading text.
What is a caption?
Text that explains a graphic.
What is clip art?
Purpose-made images from a library.
What is cmyk?
Cyan, magenta, yellow and black use in laser and off-set litho printing.
What is a colour picker?
A tool that selects and matches colours exactly.
What is colour swatch?
A ready made colour chart used for checking printed colours.
What is a column?
Vertical, rectangular form that body text is contained in.
What is a column rule?
A vertical line separating columns?
What are crop marks?
Marks in the print margins of a publication that shows the printer where to trim the page.
What is cropping?
When you remove all or part of an images background.
What is a drop cap?
A large first letter in an article that emphasises the start.
What is a drop shadow?
A shadow placed behind an image to create emphasis or suggest death.
What is DTP?
Desktop publishing, creating publications on a computer.
What is a floating item?
A graphic item that is not constrained by the layout structure.
What is flow text?
A line of text that follows a line or curve.
What is a footer/folio?
Text in the footer space at the bottom of a page.
What are frames?
Re-sizeable, non-printing boxes that contain text or images.
What is grid and snap?
A square grid that the snap function attaches to. Improves accuracy and speed of production.
What are guidlines?
Non-printing lines pulled onto the page to support layout construction.
