What is the meaning of alignment?

A

Alignment is simply pictures or pieces of text are in line with one another e.g. left side aligned, right side aligned e.c.t

A

Contrast is when opposite colours on the colour wheel are in a image together e.g. blue and orange.

A

A ‘drop cap’ is a capital letter at the beginning of a piece of writing, the drop cap can take up from any were from 2-5 lines normally.

A

Drop shadow is when an image has a realistic shadow coming off of it this is called a ‘drop shadow’.

A

A

Balance is self explanatory, it’s when there’s a balance between text and images or it could even be a balance between colours which have been used.

What is meant by the DTP term layers?

A

Think of an onion, I know that’s a weird analogy but go with it. With an onion there’s hundreds of layers of stuff, now think graphics. Think that those onion layers are individual layers of text, colour or images. That’s what the term ‘layers’ mean in graphics.

Give an explanation of what a advancing colour is.

A

An advancing colour is one which looks like it’s coming towards you, advancing colours are mostly all warm colours e.g. red, yellow or orange.

A

A receding colour is one which appears to be moving a way from you, receding colours are mostly all cold colours e.g. blue, green or purple.

A

Cropping can be useful for taking parts of an image out e.g. If you took a picture of a nice landscape but your friend photobombed the picture you could simply crop him or her out.

A

Dominance is when a specific thing is bigger than the rest on a image e.g. think of the Nike logo, the tick is the most standout thing that appears on the logo, thus making it dominant.

A

Transparency is when a image, text or whatever has had it’s full percentage of colour taken down, by taking down transparency the image becomes slightly more see through the object or what ever e.g. In a movie if a person becomes invisible they become completely transparent.

A

Bleed in graphics is not when something or someone is bleeding it’s in-fact when something is partially off of the page which has been designed, so it’s kind of like cropping but it’s when a image is falling off the page.

A

Depth is when images can be overlapping one another. For example having two see through bottles one behind the other.

A

The gutter is the space placed between columns in a design to add breath or white space. Its width is usually two times the margin.

A

A thumbnail is a quickly drawn image, which gives the graphic designer a rough idea of the final deign needed.

A

White space is self explanatory,it’s when there’s a gap of nothingness apart from the colour white. This is used to give the reader a rest from gathering all the information which is in-front of them.

A

The importance of contrast is that it gives the image a sense of professionalism and it gives the image a greater finish.

What is the importance of alignment?

A

In some cases, alignment is key. For example it’s much easier to read sentences if they are in a straight line. But by placing images and pieces of text in alignment it makes the image look much better and neater.
