Tell me how you would check the brakes are working before you start driving.
Test as you set off by pressing the pedal. They should not feel spongy, slack, or pull to one side.
Tell me where you would find the information for the recommended tyre pressure for the car, and how they should be checked.
Find information in the manufacturer’s guide.
To check, use a reliable pressure gauge when the tires are cold - remember to refit valves!!
Also, check spare tire.
Tell me how you check your head restraint is correctly adjusted, so it provides the best protection.
Rigid part should be at least as high as the eye or top of the ears, and as close to the back of the head as comfortable.
Tell me how you would check the tires to ensure they have sufficient tread depth and that their general condition is safe to use on the road.
No cuts and bulges
1.6mm of tread depth across the central three quarters of the breadth of the tyre and around the entire circumference.

You would operate the switch (the one on the dash not the lever) with ignition on if need) then walk around the vehicle to assess.

Apply gentle pressure on the steering wheel while the engine is started - a slight movement should be noticeable as the system starts to operate.
You can also turn the steering while immediately after moving off - the steering should not be heavy.
Tell me how you switch on the rear fog lights and explain when you would use them.
Operate the switch (ignition and dipped lights first) and check warning light is on the dashboard.

Tell me how you switch on your headlight from dipped to main beam, and how you would know main beam is on.
Operate the switch, and can switch between using the lever. Check the main beam is on due to the light on the dash.
Open the bonnet and tell me how you would check that the engine has sufficient oil.
Identify dipstick/oil level indicator - describe the oil level should be between the minimum nd maximum markers.
(Take dipstick out, wipe clean, replace, then remove again and assess the high and low marks and check level is between these)
Open the bonnet and tell me how you’d check that the engine has sufficient coolant.
Identify high and low-level markings on the header tank if fitted, or the radiator filler cap, and describe how to top up with a water and antifreeze mix when the engine is cold.
Open the bonnet and tell me how you’d check that you have a safe level of hydraulic brake fluid.
Identify reservoir, check level against high and low markings.
