What does LOTO stand for?

What is loto’s purpose?
Loto is a method of safely isolating systems and equipment electrically and mechanically.
What are the 4 main reasons for conducting LOTO?
- Isolating equipment to allow maintenance to proceed without hazard to maintainer.
- When equipment is defective or dangerous to operate.
- To prevent selection of a mode of operation which may be unavailable or dangerous.
- Where supplies have been provided but haven’t been fitted.
What are the 7 considerations which must be conducted as part of the loto process?
- All isolation points have been identified.
- Permission obtained from authorising technical rate.
- User of equipment and other personnel that may be affected are informed.
- A separate LOTO label is to be filled in for each individual isolation point.
- The next sequential number is to be identified from the LOTO log index.
- All details to be completed in the front of the LOTO log.
- All the LOTO information is recorded on a LOTO safety certificate.
What does COSHH stand for?
Control of substances hazardous to health.
What does PUWER stand for?
Provision and use of work equipment regulations
What does LOLER stand for?
Lifting operations and lifting equipment regulations
What does RIDDOR stand for?
Reporting of injuries, diseases and dangerous occurrences regulations
What does PPE stand for?
Personal protective equipment
Define an enclosed space
An enclosed compartment or space which has remained shut and unventilated for more than 24 hours.
Define hot work.
Welding and burning operations include all welding, gas burning, brazing, use of blow lamps, liquefied petroleum gas burners and grinding.
What is the purpose of lagging?
To minimise the loss or gain of heat by machinery and systems.
What does HASWA stand for?
health and safety at work act
What do the PPE regulations require the equipment to be?
- Properly assessed to ensure it is suitable
- Is maintained and stored correctly
- Is provided with instructions on how to use it safely
- Is used correctly by employees.
What will eye protection protect the user from?
- Chemicals or metal splash
- Dust
- Projectiles
- Gas and vapour
- Radiation
What do the PUWER regulations require equipment to be?
- Suitable for intended use
- Safe for use, maintained in a safe condition.
- Used by people who have received adequate info and training.
- Accompanied by suitable safety measures.
