Dissociation
A general term that refers to a detachment from many things.
For example, depersonalization or derealization
Derealization
Is when things or people around seem unreal.
A type of dissociation.
Depersonalization
Is specifically a sense of detachment from oneself and one’s identity
A type of dissociation.
Anhedonia
The inability to feel pleasure.
It’s a common symptom of depression.
It also affects people with other mental illnesses, like schizophrenia and bipolar disorder.
Avolition
Loss of motivation.
It is often a “negative” symptom of schizophrenia, a mental disorder that affects how you think, feel, and act. It can also be a sign of severe depression or a side effect of certain medicines.
Negative symptoms
The absence or lack of a typical emotional/mental/social experience or ability.
Including blunting of affect, poverty of speech and thought, apathy, anhedonia, reduced social drive, loss of motivation (avolition), lack of social interest, and inattention to social or cognitive input.
Brief psychotic disorder
Duration is more than 1 day, less than 1 month, lacks negative symptoms, person returns to premorbid functioning
Schizophrenoform disorder
duration: lasts at least 1 month but less than 6 months. Negative symptoms possible
Schizophrenia duration
lasts longer than 6 months
- Stupor
oblivious inability to move or respond to stimuli
catalepsy
rigid body posture
Mutism
little to no verbal communication
- Waxy flexibility
body remains in whatever position it is placed by another
Negativism
(lack of verbal response)
Posturing
(holding a posture or position that goes against gravity)
