Dry Cask Storage Flashcards
Identify Multi-Purpose Canister (MPC) material used to help prevent nuclear criticality.
Metamic (Boron-Aluminum) in Basket
Describe how to verify the inlet and outlet air ducts are free of blockage on a HI-STORM.
Visual inspection
Describe the actions to be taken should blockage be discovered on an inlet or outlet air duct of a HI-STORM.
Any blockage less than 50% enter condition A
Any blockage greater than 50% enter condition B
Identify the three major components of the HI-STORM 100 System.
Multi Purpose Canister MPC
HI-TRAC Transfer Cask
HI-Storm 100 Overpack
How many fuel assemblies does one cask hold?
32
What is the surveillance requirements for casks?
MUST BE PERFORMED EVERY 24HRS.
Verify that all SFSC inlet and outlet air duct are free of blockage from solid debris or floodwater. Visually inspect all inlet and outlet air duct. OR
For overpacks with installed temperature monitoring equipment, verify that the difference between the average overpack air outlet temperature and ISFSI ambient temperature is ≤ 155°F (PWR).
When is the cask heat removal system operable?
When 50% or more of the inlet and outlet vent areas are unblocked and available for flow
OR
Air temperature requirements are met.
Why do we use stainless steel?
it has excellent cold weather properties.
its ductile During accident conditions.
will not corrode.
longevity.
Why do we use helium in the cask?
Good heat transfer.
