A

-blocks alpha and beta receptors

—>decreases peripheral vascular resistance w/o significantly altering HR or cardiac output

What are the indications for esmolol?

A
  • to control rapid HR or arrhythmias
  • Tx for fast HR or HTN during and after surgery
  • -good for medical procedures d/t half-life of 9mins

-watch BP closely for signs of overTx and htn
