Drugs Part 1 Flashcards
can slow down the heart rate when administered as a drug
norepenephrine
works to increase HR and contractility
dobutamine, dopamine, norepinephrine, epinephrine
drug of choice for glaucoma and why?
brominidine is the drug of choice for glaucoma because it doesn’t irritate the eye
selective alpha 1 agonist…what is it used for
phenylephrine and it is used as a nasal congestant and can be used for topical administration to the eye (glaucoma)
Selective alpha 2 receptor agonist
brominidine and clonidine
selective beta 1 and beta 2 agonist
isoproterenol
selective beta 2 agonist
terbutaline
selective Beta 2 agonist and can bind B1 receptor if there is a high enough concentration
albuterol
sometimes used to treat asthma because it causes bronchodilation but not the best because
isoproterenol; also targets beta 1 receptors for cardiovascular effects
used to treat hypertension and glaucoma but can cause sedation and dry mouth as a side effect
clonidine
selective alopha 1, 2, beta 1 agonist and doesn’t work at B2 receptors
norepinephrine
selective alpha 1 and beta 1 agonist and has receptors on the renal arteries that causes dilation
dopamine
only works to increase HR and contractility becuase it is a selective B1 agonist
dobutamine
used to treat severe hypotension and shock
norepinephrine
you diagnose a patient with anaphylaxis and immediately administer a low dose of a specific medication that will hopefully relieve her bronchospasm
epinephrine
