Drugs In Sport Flashcards
To allow performance enhancing drugs..
In sport could only lead to a negative outcome for all sports and the athletes.
Using drugs in sport?
To allow competitors to openly use drugs in sport defies basic concepts that sport is about natural talent, hard training, integrity and the concept of fair play.
Spirit of sport…
Sport is a celebration of human spirit, body and mind. Honesty, health and a respect for the rules and laws. To legalise performance enhancing drugs in sport contradicts these values
Differences between countries
Everyone could compete using them it would still not allow a level playing field for all competitors. Huge differences in sporting technology already shows, wealthier countries invest more money in better equipment and training programs giving their athletes the competing edge. PEDs are another factor that wealthier countries can invest in to help their athletes become stronger and faster. If PEDs were legalised poorer countries would be at a greater disadvantage because they cannot abort such luxuries.
Legal
If athletes were allowed to use PEDs they would still be illegal outside the sporting arena. When athletes use PEDs they would do so under strict medical guidance. The general public and amateur sports people would be at great danger because they would not have the necessary medical guidance and supervision.
Role models
Athletes should be recognised because of their natural talent not because they are using PEDs. Athletes are role models by taking drugs they are sending negative messages that cheating is ok you will get you what you want and there is no need to work hard to achieve.
The athletes health
PEDs are detrimental to an athletes health. Allowing them would turn the athletes into human guineapigs as new substances are introduced to make them faster and stronger. Having unknown long term health effects on the user
Winning?
Allowing drugs in sport would solely concentrate on winning not the joy of playing the sport.
Drug problem in society
If drugs were allowed in sport then the general public will know about the products being taken and the results achieved from using them thus creating a drug problem in society
