Drugs Flashcards
Edrophonium
Reversible acetylcholinesterase inhibitor - competitive inhibitor - used in tension test
Rocuronium, atracurinium, verocuronium, pancuronium, suxamethonium
Anaesthetic -> antagonist at neuromuscular junctions, competitively inhibits the nicotinic acetylcholine choline receptor blocking the binding of acetylcholine choline
Neostigmine, pyrisodtigmine, physostigmine, rivastigmine, donepezil, galantimine
Inhibit cholinesterases so prevent the breakdown of acetylcholine choline at neuromuscular junctions
Dantrolene
Inhibits the release of calcium ions from the sarcoplasmic reticulum - so is a muscle relaxant
bethanechol, pilocarpine, physostigmine neostigmine, ecothipoate
Muscarinic receptor agonists
Atropine, hyoscine, scopolamine, benzotropine
Muscarinic receptor antagonists
Isoprenaline
Non selective beta adrenoreceptor agonist
Relax muscles of the airways and heart
Warfarin
Vitamin K acting anticoagulant
Clonidine
Alpha 1 and 2 adrenergic agonist
hypotension drug -> widens blood vessels
Dobutamine
Beta one receptor agonist
Used in treatment of cardiogenic shock or severe heart failure as increases contraction to and cardiac output
Salbutamol
Short acting beta2-adrenergic receptor agonist
Used in treatment of asthma and COPD
Prazosin
Alpha 1 inverse agonist (does complete opposite of regular ligand)
Treats high blood pressure and benign prostatic hyperplasia
Propranolol, atenolol
Beta blocker
Used to treat high plod pressure, irregular heart rate etc.
Yohimbine
Alpha-2 adrenergic antagonist
Erectile dysfunction
Butoxamine
B2 selective beta blocker
