Drugs Flashcards
ASA
Class
Analgesic, anti-pyretic, anti-inflammatory
ASA
Mechanism of Action
Blocks Thromboxane A (potent platelet aggregate and vasoconstrictor)
Decreased Platelet Aggregation
ASA
Indications and Field Use
Contraindications
Ind: chest pain or other MI symptoms, ECG changes suggesting MI, Unstable angina, pain discomfort or fever
Contra: bleeding ulcer hemorrhage or hemophilia, NSAID hypersensitivity, PEDS
ASA
Adverse Reaction
Incompatibilities/Interactions
Special Notes
Adverse: Use with caution history of asthma
I/D: none w/ single dose
Special: heat and light sensitive, smell like acid
ASA
Dose (A/P), Route, Onset, Effect, Duration, Supply
A: 324 mg (4-81 mg tabs)
P: no dose
Route: Oral Onset: 20-30 minutes Effect: 2 hrs Duration: 4-6 hrs Supply: 324mg
Verapamil
Class
Calcium Channel blocker
Verapamil
Mechanism of Action
Blocks calcium influx into cardiac and smooth muscle - Negative Inotropy
Slows conduction and prolongs refractory period in AV nose
Slows SA node d/c
Decrease heart contractility and AV conduction
Verapamil
Indications/Field Use
Contraindications
Ind: Supraventricular Tachycardia , Atrial Fibrillation and A Flutter with rapid ventricular response (RVR)
Contra: AV block, sick sinus syndrome,
Any wide QRS tach, WPW, Shock, Severe CHF, IV beta blocker, hypotension
Verapamil
Adverse Reaction
Incompatibilities
Ad: severe Brady, a systole, AV block, hypotension, CHF
Incompatibilities: IV beta blockers
Verapamil
Dose (A/P), Route, Onset, Peak Effect, Duration, Supply
Dose: 2.5-5 mg slow IV push over 2-3 minutes. May rebolus 15-30 minutes later 5-10 mg until max of 30mg; no ped dose
Route: IV slow push Onset: 1-3 minutes Peak: 3-5 minutes Duration: 2-5 hrs Supply: 10mg
Verapamil
Special Notes
Can be used for cardioversion, adenosine preferred; try Vagal maneuvers, monitor for hypotension and AV block,
1-2min push for adults,3 for middle age
