Amiodarone side effects
Bradycardia (ca2+ channel blocking activity affects AV node) ILD Thyroid Cutaneous / corneal microdeposits Hepatic / hypersensitive grey skin
Adenosine
Tx SVT (after vagal stimulation)
Transient AV block which slows conduction through AV node
Tx WPW
Atropine
Tx symptomatic bradycardia
Anti-cholinergic
Anti-SLUD
Inhibits ACh (works on cardiac smooth muscle & sweat glands) which is main NT at NMJ (dec ACh =>>> botulism, tetenus, paralysis)
Laxatives
Osmotic = lactulose Stimulant = metoclopramide, erythromycin
Mixed O & S =
Bulk forming = senna
Olanzopine
Newer antipsychotic
Balances out chemicals in brain & relieves the disturbing symptoms
Close monitoring checking levels in your blood
S.E.: weight gain, oedema, diabetes, sleepiness
Advice: inform other doctors you are on this medication, don’t have alcohol or stop suddenly, take tablet as prescribed
Lithium
Mood stabiliser, helps to prevent moments when you feel very high and very low
Advice: take as prescribed, to avoid alcohol, inform other doctors you are on this medication (high levels of lithium can be very dangerous)
S.E.:
Lack of energy
Intentional tremor
Teratogenic
Hypothyroid
Insipidus
Urine excess
Metallic taste
Close monitoring, checking wbc/levels of lithium in blood, ecg, pregnancy etc
Seek medical advice if you feel particularly unwell
S.E immunosuppressants
Derm: seborrhoeic keratoses
Metabolic: cushingoid features (steroids)
Infection: re-activation of TB, HSV, viral warts
Malignant: melanoma, BCC/SCC
Bisphosphonates
Works by slowing bone loss and increasing bone density
Several options:
Oral - daily, weekly monthly
Take with a glass of water, sitting up, no food for 30 mins afterwards
IV infusion - 3 monthly, annually
S.E. Headaches, gi disturbance, osteonecrosis of jaw
Recommend keeping good oral health & seeing dentist
Take for 3-5 yrs, 6-12 months for benefit to be seen
