- slow down functions of CNS
- moderate, relaxed
- large, unconsciousness, slurred speech, sluggish + uncoordinated movements
- alcohol, heroin, morphine , marijuana, inhalants

A
- speed up CNS
- awake, alert, confident
- increase heart rate, body temp. and blood pressure
- reduced appetite, dilated pupils, agitation, talkativeness
- caffeine, nicotine, meth, cocaine

Hallucogens
A
- distort user’s perception of reality
- dilated pupils, loss of appetite, increased activity, jaw clenching, sweating, stomach cramps, nausea
- emotional or psychological euphoria
- hallucinations may occur
- LSD, shrooms, ecstasy, ketamine

- Affects body. Passes through body, into brain and interferes with neurotransmitters
- not all are illegal

Effects Of Smoking

- cancer
- nicotine and CO, heart rate and blood pressure, strains = heart attacks and strokes
- stops blood flow, cutting off O2 from feet and hands
- low tar is worse
- airways swell up

Effects of excessive caffeine

- sleep
- nervousness, irritability, agitation, headaches, ringing in ears
- pancreas over works, blood sugar is released from storage

- steroids - severe acne. Hormones stimulate oil glands

- chewing tobacco - cancer, brown or lost teeth, gum disease, bad breath, toxic chemicals, build up of plaque, harbors bacteria
- meth - rotting teeth, gum disease, bad breath. Dry mouth, craving for sugar, teeth clenching, meth mouth
