Q
Complication of intramuscular pethidine
A
Reduce CTG variability
1
Q
What does suxamethonium do?
A
- Rapid acting muscle relaxant
- Mimics acetylcholine at NMJ but undergoes hydrolysis much more slowly than acetylcholine - depolarisation is therefore prolonged which results in neuromuscular blockade
2
Q
Chloral hydrate
A
Sedating premedication - used in paediatrics
Can be given orally
3
Q
Atropine
A
Administered to infants and neonates prior to anaesthesia and surgery to reduce risk of inducing bradycardia
4
Q
Lidocaine
A
- Class 1b anti arrhythmic drug
- Reversibly blocks activated sodium channels
- Addition of adrenaline causes vasoconstriction and slows down absorption
5
Q
Bupivacaine
A
More lipophilic than lidocaine and so has a longer duration of action
6
Q
Thiopentone sodium
A
IV induction agent
SE: marked hypotension, anaphylaxis, bronchospasm
7
Q
Halothane
A
Volatile inhalational anaesthetic
Well tolerated and non irritant
1/30000- severe hepatotoxicity 50% mortality
Can be responsible for malignant hyperthermia (1/150000) AD-IV dantrolene sodium
