Before pour, after pour, at bedside
IM injection
Insert at 90 degrees in bicep, gluteus, or mid quad. Hold like dart
Subcut injection
Pinch fat 1-2 in in stomach or back of arm. 1 in - 45 degrees. 2 in 45-90 degrees.
Peak
Med most concentrated in blood
Trough
Med least concentrated in blood(usually 30 mins before next dose)
Regular insulin
Clear. Humalog, Novalog
Intermediate insulin(NPH)
Cloudy. NPH, Humulin
Mixed insulin
Cloudy - clear - clear - cloudy
