Vigamox Drug/class/MOA

A

Vigamox contains Moxifloxacin 0.5%. Its a fluoroquinolone antibiotic that works to inhibit bacterial growth and reduce infection. If you miss a dose, administer dose soon as possible but do not double dose.

Eye drop administration instructions (Vigamox)

A
  1. wash hands
  2. shake the suspension well
  3. have child look up if possible
  4. with one hand pull down gently on the child’s lower eyelid, making a pocket
  5. Rest your other hand on the child’s forehead and hold the dropper bottle above the child’s eye.
  6. Hold the tip of the bottle about 2.5 cm (1 inch) away from the eyelid. Do not touch the lid or the lashes with the tip.
  7. Put 1 drop into the lower eyelid pocket. Try not to drop it directly on the eye.
  8. Allow the child to close the eyes gently for about 30 seconds. Tell the child not to squeeze the eyes tightly shut. Squeezing may force the medication out.
  9. Use a clean tissue to blot any excess medication.
    Avoid contaminating the application tip with eye
    *if your eyes are blurry immediately after administering drops, wait for it to clear before driving or operating any machinery

Xalatan is a prostaglandin F2-alpha analogue that contains two active ingredients: latanoprost ophthalmic solution 0.005% and benzalkonium chloride. It helps to lower the pressure within the eye by increasing the natural outflow of fluid from inside the eye.

Storage of Xalatan

A

Store unopened bottles under refrigeration (2 to 8°C). Protect from light.
Once opened, the bottle may be stored at room temperature up to 25°C, for up to six weeks.
Don’t keep in the kitchen or the bathroom as the temperature tends to fluctuate in those areas.
Bring to the pharmacy for proper disposal.

A

Store reconstituted suspension at 5°C to 30°C (41°F to 86°F) and use within 10 days. Do not store it in the kitchen or bathroom due to fluctuations in temperature and humidity. Dispose of any extra medication.

Patient self monitoring

A

Your temperature should return back to normal and your cough should start to (e.g. what to expect & when, improve in a few days. It is still important for you to finish your antibiotics.

Consult your physician if you are not seeing any improvement with the symptoms, there might be dosing adjustment or drug replacement that might be needed. There are no authorized refills. Try to give the medication at the same time every day to improve adherence and ask family members for support.

Drowsiness - careful operating heavy machinery/driving while taking, take at night If too much is taken that could result in breathing difficulties and cardiac problems. Allergic reactions include constipation, abdominal pain, rash, dry mouth. If excessive sedation persists beyond a few days, the dose of the opioid should be reduced and alternate causes investigated, in that case contact your doctor. If constipation is present and persistent, contact your pharmacist OTC products like stool softeners or laxatives can be recommended
