What is Acetaminophen-PO(Tylenol), IV (Ofirmev)?
Non-narcotic analgesic and antipyretic(reduce fever), blocks generation of pain impulses in the CNS by preventing sensitization of pain receptors.
What is the drug dose for Acetaminophen?
325-650mg PO q 4-6hrs; or 1g PO/IV q 6-8hrs
Contraindications for Acetaminophen
Chronic liver damage, excess alcohol use.
What is Acetazolamide(Diamox)?
Non-diuretic antihypertensive(carbonic anhydrase inhibitor)
What is the Drug dose for Diamox?
125mg bid- prevention of AMS 24hrs prior to ascent and 48hrs after ascent.
250mg bid- for existing AMS
Contraindications for Diamox?
Sulfa allergy, pregnancy
When would you give Diamox?
Prevention of AMS. Rx of AMS, HACE, or HAPE.
What is adenosine?
antiarrhythmic agent
Indications for Adenosine?
Used to convert PSVT, WILL NOT convert atrial flutter, atrial fibrillation, or VT.
What is the dose for Adenosine?
Adult dose- 6mg rapid IV bolus (1-3 sec) followed by 10mL flush. Two additional doses of 12mg can be administered
Pediatric dose: 0.1-0.2mg/kg IV rapid push, if IO up to 6mg
Contraindications of Adenosine?
2nd/3rd degree AV block, sick sinus syndrome, pregnancy.
What is Albuterol Inhaler (Ventolin, Proventil)
inhaled beta-adrenergic agonist; relaxes bronchial smooth muscle
Indications for Albuterol?
Asthma, anaphylaxis; prevention/treatment of exercise induced bronchospasm; smoke inhalations with wheezing and SOB. Adjunct in management of CRUSH syndrome to manage hyperkalemia and HAPE
What is the dose for Albuterol?
Adult dose: 2 inhalations q4-6hrs; may be used more frequently in acute need.
Pediatric dose: if >4 yrs old, 1 inhalation q4-6hrs
What is Amoxicillin/Clavulanic Acid(Augmentin)?
Oral Antibiotic
