Drug Transporters Flashcards
1
Q
What are ABC proteins?
A
- ATP-binding cassette
- efflux transporters
- use energy
2
Q
What are SLC proteins?
A
- Solute-linked carrier
- influx transporters
- Does not use energy
3
Q
Examples of ABC efflux transporters
A
PgP
Breast Cancer Resistance Proteins (BCRP)
MRP
4
Q
Explain saturation of intestinal efflux transporters
A
- The impact of the efflux transporter i significant when the concentration of substrate is LOW.
- When the efflux transporters are saturated the effect of them is likely to be negligable.
- Therefore impact of P-gP more pronounced for drugs which have a very slow dissolution rate or poor inherent passive diffusion.
5
Q
Examples of SLC influx transporters
A
OATP (Organic Anion Transporting Protein)
