What is the drug tariff?
Details the community Pharmacy contract with the NHS - essential, advanced, enhanced services.
A list of prices/drugs /appliances and fees for Pharmacies
List the 5 ways that community Pharmacies are paid
- Establishment and practice payment
- IT and SCR payments
- Fees (dispensing)
- Advanced services payments
- Enhanced services payments
What do establish and practice payments depend on?
Number of items dispensed per month
Describe fees as a pharmacy payment
NHS payment to Pharmacies for dispensing an item = £1.26 plus additional payments for other services claimed via endorsements or automatic payments
What are the payments from advanced services?
MUR = £28, up to £400 a year
NMS = £20.28, depends on how many completed a month
Flu £9.48
NUMSAS depends on cost of drugs and service provided but £10 consultation, 2.50 admin, 1.50 supply
Why are enhanced services payments not included in the drug tariff?
They are locally commissioned and paid for by councils, NHS England area team or CCG
What is the black list?
Items which are:
- unnecessary
- Expensive
- No medical use
- Duplication of other medicinal products
What items are allowed on FP10 prescription?
Any medicine, food, drink, medical cosmetic item as long as it is not in the black list
Where is the black list in the DT?
Part XVIIIA
How much is the patient charged for a Rx?
£8.80 - one charge per item
How is elastic hosiery charged to the patient?
One charge per leg
How is the patient charged when there are different strengths/flavours of the same item on FP10?
One charge
How is the patient charged if there are different formulations of the same item e.g slow release prednisolone Vs immediate release?
2 charges
How is a patient charged for combination packs?
One charge PER ITEM in the same combination pack
How are contraceptive items charged to patient?
no charge - except cyprindiol if not endorsed in the body of the Rx with OC
How should a prescription be endorsed/when?
- If there is >1 pack size
- Quantity supplied is defined by the number of treatment days on Rx
- Brand name, pack size and price if NOT in part VIIIA
What is SP in endorsement?
Special
What does ED stand for in an endorsement?
Extemporaneously dispensed
What does PD(n) stand for?
Packed doses for supervised consumption of methadone
What does MF stand for?
Measured and fitted e.g for elastic compression hosiery (part IXA)
- Trusses part IXA
- Para stomal garments Part IXC where size not indicated in DT
What is a special?
Unlicensed medicine that is ordered on a Rx for a named patient, produced by a specials manufacturer which is licensed and inspected by the MHRA
What is an unlicensed imported medicine?
Medicine that is unlicensed in the UK but licensed elsewhere in the world - imported by a MHRA licensed and inspected importer
How should an unlicensed medicine be endorsed?
All:
- SP
- Quantity or volume supplied
- Pack size
If the unlicensed medicine is not in Part VIIIB, what other endorsements should be included?
Price per pack
Number of packs
Manufacturer/importer license number
Batch number
