A

-virus trasferred through direct contact with resp secretions
-common cause of bronchiolitis
-peak incidence at 6 months
-dx via nasal secretions
-meds: Synagis to high risk infants (prevention)
-administered IM q monthly for 5 months
-also, Virazole via inhalation if contracted
early S/S:
runny nose, eye/ear drainage
coughing, sneezing, wheezing
intermittent fever
progression of RSV S/S:
increased coughing, wheezinh
air hunger
tacnypnea and retractions
periods of cyanosis
severe RSV S/S:
RR >70
decreased breaths sounds and poor air exchange
listlessness
apneic episodes
